*crickets*
Sorry for the lack of updates folks, life has been rather stressful lately. Things are starting to come back together and the freight train we call life is headed on down the track on a collision course with the HOLIDAYS!
Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of my favorite holidays because I love spending time with my family and friends. This year will present some interesting challenges and opportunities. I hope you all have someone special to share your holiday of choice with this year.
Hopefully I'm going to have some tech reviews to post here later on. Been playing with a little bit of new tech, should collect up my thoughts and write it down. Until then... have a very merry Un-Birthday!
Game Core Con ’09
I spent over 15 hours Friday/Saturday putting together the Magic:The Gathering price list for the crew at We've Got Freakin' Video Games. Then I slept for about half an hour before I jumped in the car and drove out to Oaks, PA for the Game Core Convention 2009 a gathering of video, console, tabletop and other gamers.
One of the highlights for me was getting to see YTCracker and MC Lars perform in the music area of the con. I got to record a little bit of video which I actually remembered to put up on my YouTube this time (not sure if I'll post it on my vimeo too).
While I was hanging in the music room they were holding the door-prize raffle in the main con space. Agnes was hanging out there listening. We won cartridge #1 of #50 limited edition printing of a BRAND NEW game for the Atari 2600 called Shield Shifter that was released at the con by the folks at Good Deal Games.
Yes kids, you read that correctly, a brand new game (released September 12, 2009) for the Atari 2600 (released in October 1977). Needless to say I was shocked and amazed, happy as could be, and then I traded it to Jim for his collection (since he actually collects games and I just, uh, don't). I now have cartridge #8 of 50, and someday when I find my 2600 I'm gonna play the hell out of it.
After about 8 hours at con (running on 30 minutes of sleep in the last 42 hours) we decided to head home, having declared victory and gone on a bit of a spending binge (I bought used books again! >.<). Tune in next time for another exciting update on a topic that has NOTHING to do with this one!

Hot Topic is a contrived identification with youth subcultures to manufacture an anti-authoritarian identity and make millions.
The $8 you paid for the Mudvayne poster would be better spent used to see your brother's friend's band.
DIY ethics are punk rock.
Starting your own label is punk rock.
G.G. Allin was punk rock.
But when a crass corporate vulture feeds on mass-consumer culture,
this spending mommy's money is not punk rock!
Lyrics by Mc Lars (Andrew Nielsen)
The 9 Steps to Live “The Way” by Miyamoto Musashi
- Do not think dishonestly.
- The Way is to train.
- Have knowledge of every art.
- Know the Way of all professions.
- Know the difference between profit and loss in worldly matters.
- Develop intuition and an understanding of all things.
- See that which cannot be seen.
- Attend even to the seemingly insignificant.
- Do nothing which is useless.
From Williamsburg to Wiki-gardening
This week I was treated to a family trip to historic Williamsburg, VA from Sunday to Wednesday. I took a ton of pictures, and geocoded most of them on my flickr account. Now that I'm back to work (for two whole days! woo!) I'm gardening a bit on the Star Pirates wiki.
I had intended for this to be longer, but you know what? Suffer.
A Day At The Park
Yankees vs. Orioles
July 22, 2009
Time: 1:05pm
Place: Yankee Stadium
The day started bright and early at 7:00 AM. We dressed in silence, both of us thrilled at the fun we were sure the day would bring. By 8:00 we had our tickets, water and sunglasses, and we headed for the train station.
Spilled Flowers
The flowers were blocking my view of the TV, and they looked so sad, indoors, away from the bees and the sun. So I gave them some water, and I put them outside on my deck, thinking I could bring them inside in a few hours, and they'd be blossomed and beautiful. I was washing my hands at the sink about 45 minutes later when I heard a thud from outside. 🙁
Office Hours
SMRSH Office Hours will be this evening at 17:00 at DLZ's house. All are welcome.
Conundrum.
Should I be pleased or insulted that I am the only one not invited to today's complete waste of time (aka "operations meeting")?
Need some feedback here.
Yarrrrrrr! (and such)
Sticky!: This is our sticky webgame of the (however long it lasts). Once I know that other people have seen it (which can be indicated by joining the game), I'll take it down and get back to the normal flow of the site.
Until then... consider yerselves hijacked and at the mercy of yer fellow pie-rats! Yarr!
